i’m not a nascar fan or follower really but the whole story is just so intriguing and puzzling at the same time, so i want to know, what do fans of nascar think of this whole debacle? whose side are they on, and who do they believe?

nascar fans of y!a, help me understand where nascar world stands

It’s all out of proportion, and no longer has anything to do with Mayfield, and drugs..
The issue has become NASCAR’s right administer it’s own sport, without interference from outside parties.. They will never lose such a fight, if they did, it would be the end of NASCAR.. They will spend far more money than any other party to ensure their own autonomy
And in spite of all the criticism, NASCAR’s substance abuse program must work pretty well .. Of all the people that were tested, only a very small number ever fail..
If other sports were tough like NASCAR, they would have very few participants eligible to play.. We should be proud of our sport, for having a zero tolerance policy..
The World Doping Organization says NASCAR’s policies are no good.. Yet most of the sports they regulate, are loaded with people using all kinds of illegal substances.. Who are they to tell NASCAR how to run a drug free sport??

I think that he is guilty of meth, but i think that they are blowing everything way out of proportion. All he wants is attention and that’s what we are giving him

As the soap opera unfolds Jeremy Mayfield looks more and more like a lying scumbag. Whatever happens from here on out, Mayfield will never drive a stock car in Nascar again.

It really just makes me kind of sick. I’m not sure which is worse- Mayfield, the people who are still supporting him or the apathetic ones. I don’t understand why he can’t just let it go. More positive test results, and he is still going to deny using? He needs to be run out of the sport entirely. I’m talking not even allowed to buy a ticket to watch the race from the stands. It’s bad enough when people take drugs in other sports, but when you’re driving under the influence- thank God, he never killed or hurt anyone.

…..this story is getting too many turns in it.I think the judge should get the sample (3 samples) and send to 3 labs that only the judge knows. All the lab would have is "legal Specimen #1 or 2 or 3".if they comeback clean then the NASCAR lab is in error and all charges dropped. If positive then it is a lifetime suspension.

Mayfield is guilty and doesn’t deserve to drive in Nascar again.

I really think that NASCAR & Mayfield’s attorneys need to come to an agreement on an independent lab to do a final test. NASCAR doesn’t accept Mayfield’s testing lab & Mayfield doesn’t trust anything NASCAR.

If they can’t come to a decision, the court should appoint a 3rd party lab & run the test. All sides need to come to an agreement & put this thing to bed.

Sabes99, this is a very sad & bizarre situation. Jeremy Mayfield was a random driver choice for a drug test (drivers, crew members & mechanics are to be randomly tested throughout the season) & tested positive for a substance not divulged by NASCAR at the time but which we now know is methamphetamine. Mayfield was duly suspended at that time. After emphatically denying any improper drug use (Mayfield contends that any positive reaction must have been due to a combination of Claritin-D and Adderal, a prescription ADD drug), he was granted an injunction allowing him to race at Daytona on July 4th. He did not race there or at Chicago the following week as he was unable to obtain sponsorship for his own car nor was he able to secure a ride for another car owner. Gee, wonder why? NASCAR contested the injunction, tested Mayfield again last week & Bingo! another positive result for meth. To further support their stand, NASCAR has obtained an affidavit from Mayfield’s stepmother attesting that she actually saw him use meth on at least 30 occasions over the past 7 years. Mayfield still maintains his innocence & now contends that NASCAR "bought" false testimony from his "evil" stepmother. For Mayfield to be innocent, not only would documented proof have to exist of the meth-like chemical reaction of Claritin-D & Adderal, as well as documented proof of his ongoing use of both medications and confirmation of bribery to obtain false witness on the part of NASCAR. There is no rational reason for NASCAR to have a vendetta against Jeremy Mayfield or to deliberately falsify random drug test results: all they are trying to do is ensure that an inherently dangerous sport is not deliberately made more so by having impaired drivers, crew members, et al, suspended from participation. It is sad that Mayfield cannot see this and own up that his own misdeeds have cost him the remainder of his racing career. Dale Jr’s comment re Mayfield & meth accurately nails the situation: Don’t do stupid stuff!

Mayfield screwed up. There’s no possible way he can be any kind of role model b/c of this. I think at the least he should have a lengthy suspension and be required to have some kind of meth rehab. sponsor on his vehicle when he comes back.

I think it all stinks everybit of it. #1, when you think about major league baseball, or MJ, you think of illegal drug use, now people will start thinking that of NASCAR, #2 he had his day in court with NASCAR, and the with the federal Judges, #3 he then failed a second drug test, and then blames his step mom and NASCAR for picking on him. I hope for the best for him, but wish this would go away quietly. NASCAR rules!!

It’s kind of like Darrel Strawberry in MLB. Except in Nascar, you never get to come back. Ever. Period.
